Born
in 1972 Jon rapidly found his place in the pottery marketplace, by the age of 15, Jon found his first pottery career at Crich
pottery in Derbyshire, England, by 17 he had learnt the traditional aspects of pottery production and now had moved to Chatsworth
Ceramics as a full time thrower, after a year of throwing pots for Chatsworth Jon was offered a position at Dartington pottery
where he stayed for two years before moving to Bermuda. Dartington became Jon’s favorite learning ground with access
to wood, salt, reduction and Raku firing and with a wealth of experience from other colleagues Jon further developed his throwing
skills and making techniques. In 1992 Jon was offered a throwing position at Island pottery in Bermuda, after two years Jon
left the Island pottery to produce pottery by himself and started Bermuda ceramics in Somerset, Bermuda, after two years Jon
moved his studio to Dockyard and opened a retail store/workshop called Bermuda Clayworks LTD, specializing in low fire earthenware
with a bright tropical theme production thrived and Bermuda Clayworks rapidly became a success. In 2006 Jon sold Bermuda Clayworks
to pursue his passion for high fire saltglaze ware, Jon has found more contentment in making every item completely by hand
by himself from start to finish. The pottery Jon
is producing at present is made completely by hand on the potters wheel, most of Jon’s work is cut and reassembled,
each piece is made from a high fire stoneware clay, Jon fires his gas kiln to 2400 degrees Fahrenheit, the glaze is produced
by vaporizing salt in the firebox of the kiln, salt is put in the kiln from 2100 degrees, the salt vaporizes in the firebox
and is distributed around the kiln by the natural draft of the burners
